Abstract
Its aims to extract the key foundations and principles that Al-Kāfījī employed in his preferential judgements by studying a selection of preferential issues in his book "Sharh Qawā'id al-I'rab." This includes a categorized, analytical, and discursive study of the preferential matters in his work. Methodology: The research adopts a selective descriptive approach to identify the general principles upon which the commentator based his preferential judgements. Key Findings: The study concluded that the primary scientific foundations that Al-Kāfījī relied upon in his preferential judgements are: principles of grammatical theory, coherence of meaning. It also revealed significant aspects of the methodology he followed and the independence of his scholarly personality in preferencing. Recommendations: The study recommends the exploration of preferential foundations in grammatical treatises across the four linguistic levels.
