Abstract
The study aimed to identify the impact of national poetry (the poetry of His Royal Highness Prince Khaled Al-Faisal as a model) on developing national literary appreciation skills and enhancing the Saudi identity among Taibah University students. The researchers used descriptive and semi-experimental approaches to suit this research. The study sample consisted of (80) female undergraduate students at Taibah University in Madinah, (40) female students representing the experimental group, and (40) female students representing the control group. To achieve the objectives of the study, two tools were used: The National Literary Appreciation Skills Test, and the Saudi National Identity Scale. And its validity and reliability have been verified after it was applied to a pilot sample of (30) female students. The following statistical coefficients were used to answer the study questions: Independent Samples T Test, and Eta square. The study showed the following results: A list of national literary appreciation skills suitable for undergraduate students. A scale for the Saudi national identity suitable for undergraduate students. There is a high effect size of reciting and discussing two of the poems (If it not remains, Unique in History) in developing the skills of national literary appreciation and enhancing the Saudi identity among undergraduate students. The researchers presented a number of recommendations, including: Paying attention to spreading and clarifying the concept of Saudi identity, increasing awareness of its dimensions and importance, and promoting this among different classes of students. Developing literature and rhetoric courses in line with developing national literary appreciation skills, promoting national values, and promoting patriotism through the national texts presented.
