Abstract
The study aims to identifying the relationship between incongruent Beliefs about Appearance and Eating Disorder symptoms, and to recognizing the extent to which appearance and weight beliefs contribute to predicting disorders of appearance, and the differences in them according to gender and marital status, weight evaluation and interaction between them. The study sample consisted of (338) male and female basic education college students. Both Beliefs about Appearance Scale (BAAS) and the Disorders Questionnaire Spangler DL, Stice E (2001) were applied; eating was prepared by Shaima Basha (2015). The results showed a significant positive correlation between the dimensions of beliefs about appearance and its total degree and the dimensions of eating disorders and its total degree, and there are no significant differences on the incongruent beliefs about appearance variable which is attributed to differences in gender, social status, weight or interaction between them, and the presence of differences in eating disorders which are attributed to the differences in weight in the direction of those with above average weight, and the very obese, and the absence of differences on eating disorders which are attributed to each of sex, marital status and the interaction between the three variables, and it was found that both weight estimation and dimensions of beliefs about appearance related to feelings and beliefs about appearance related to self-image contribute to predicting statistically significant image of eating disorders.
