The Geography Department is an integral part of a lofty edifice: that is Umm Al-Qura University (UQU). Ever since it came into being, the department has taken as its primary objective building specialized scientific and research cadres, capable of diagnosing the community problems, and contributing to finding effective solutions to them.
Geographical approaches and methods are known for its societal viewpoint that takes into consideration the features of the place, with all natural and human dimensions. This discipline is open wide for all other social sciences and humanities.
Additionally, it is aided by a myriad of cutting-edge technologies in research, analysis, and field, empirical studies, especially remote sensing and geographical information systems. The underlying objective is play a substantial role in serving our society in a more effective and fruitful way.
Manifestations of this role are to be found in all scientific and academic activities of the department, to the effect that its services have extended to the university's various colleges and departments.
The department is staffed with and elite of highly qualified, experienced faculty members, who have got their degrees from prestigious international universities. And there are published in Arabic and international journals.
In other words, besides their educational and research roles, as well as supervision of master and PhD theses, and providing academic and technical consultancy, our faculty members keep abreast of all updates and developments in their area of specialization. That is to be added participation in national and international scientific conferences, in addition to enrollment in national and international specialized courses to keep up with all that's new in geography.
