1. Hajj and Umrah
The Hajj and Umrah research group focuses on Hajj and Umrah literature written from inside and outside of the Muslim religious tradition. It also aims to explore issues relating to the historical, social, political and geographical contexts of the Islamic pilgrimage.

2. Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies
The Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies research group is a multi-disciplinary group that brings together members from the department whose research aims to explore topics relating to Islam and the Middle Eastern world.

3. Theatre, Film and Culture
The Theatre, Film and Culture research group brings together members from the department whose research interests covers a range of topics relating to theatre, film and cultural studies.

4. Computer Corpus Research on Language
The Computer Corpus Research Group is an interdisciplinary group that brings academics from the department who are interested in using corpus linguistic methods and tools in language data collection and study. As corpus linguistics is a fast-growing field that contributes to different areas of language study, this research group aims at facilitating and encouraging the use of corpus approaches and techniques in compiling as well as analysing various types of corpora. Since corpus linguistics is basically a methodological approach that incorporates quantitative and qualitative methods, this research group specializes in the application of corpus techniques in any type of research involving the analysis of language in linguistics, language learning and literature.
