Vision

To be a recognized and respected department in Saudi Arabia, the gulf countries and worldwide for its contributions to improve the civil infrastructure of the holy city of Makkah and the kingdom of Saudi Arabia through research, education leading to bachelors, masters and PhD degrees and continuing education for practicing engineers.

Overview

The Department of Civil Engineering was established in 1407 A.H. as the third department at the college (preceded by the Department of Islamic Architecture and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering) with the aim of fulfilling the Saudi Kingdom's need for civil engineers. This came within the framework of the ambitious plans devised by the country to keep pace with the rapid urban development. The aim was to provide the Makkah region and its neighboring areas with qualified civil engineers who had studied in the same environment and so understood the needs of the region, and to give the students an opportunity to contribute to the development process in an effective manner.

The objectives of the program include enhancing the students' knowledge about their environment and enabling them to fulfill its engineering needs. This is in addition to providing scientific solutions for Makkah, which hundred of thousands of Muslims visit annually to perform Hajj and Umrah.

Furthermore, the program aims to graduate highly efficient engineers who are able to compete academically and professionally with their peers at other universities and are able to pursue their postgraduate studies inside and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, without any obstacles.

Objectives

  1. Deepening the students’ perception of the concept of the Islamic culture and urging them to adhere to the Islamic ethics in the practice of the profession.
  2. Acquiring the basic and engineering sciences required to develop a solid base for further specialized studies.
  3. Developing the students’ capabilities to apply the academic knowledge they have learnt.
  4. Acquiring the attributes of a leading personality and the skills needed to manage engineering work.
  5. Making the aforementioned objectives contribute to providing the graduates with an engineering and scientific background and to equipping them with what they need to have a successful future in the profession, professionally successful future, Allah willing.

Mission

To provide the students with high-quality education and training, which are necessary for them to fully develop their professional qualities and skills as civil engineers and to develop their personal potential to the greatest extent possible.

This is to enable them to pursue higher studies and research to serve the holy city of Makkah, with regard to its particular engineering needs due to the pilgrims, as well as the Saudi society at large.
