Dean of Graduate Studies at Umm Al-Qura University Dr. Salih bin Abdullah Al-Firaih opened a workshop organized by graduate students at the department of media under the theme: How to Be a Role Model for Media, with the participation of 18 students in the presence of the workshop supervisor Dr. Faisal bin Ahmed Al-Shimmari and a number of department students. The workshop tackled five themes focusing on the media role in achieving such project.
Dr. Al-Firaih said that Deanship of Graduate Studies measured some parts required by graduate students at Makkah Cultural Project for this year launched by Makkah Emirate under the slogan of " How to be a Role Model" and organized several lectures and workshops which attracted number of outstanding students including scholarships and graduate studies students. He added: focus was given to some intellectual aspects which are considered one of the risks facing graduate students.
Further, Dr. Al-Firaih reviewed the importance of media in the D'awa and awareness aspects and in communicating the media message to the community. He lauded the support received by the Deanship of Graduate Studies from the UQU President Dr. Bakri bin M'atooq bin Bakri Assas and the follow up of the UQU Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research Dr. Thamir bin Hamdan Al-Harbi. He also lauded good organization of the workshop.
For his part, the workshop supervisor, Dr. Faisal bin Ahmed Al-Shimmari said the workshop is aimed at turning attention of the graduate students to the importance of the role media and their role in educating the community, appreciating students efforts in this regard.
It's worth mentioning here that the workshop discussed in its first theme presented by student Ahmed Al-Zahrani "concepts of the role model" in which he referred to the importance of media message and the role of media man to standup to their words. Then, student Badri Assas tackled in the 2nd theme the role of journalism and drama in providing role models referring to the positive impact of drama in creating youth role models. In the third theme, student Ahmed Al-Zahrani shed light on the absence of the role model and impact of intellectual invasion targeting youth, saying the absence of good role models lead the youth to search for role models outside of their communities which in turn results in the spread of strange behavior. In the fourth theme, student Abdulrahman Al-Abshan covered the issue of hijacking of media leads to the absence of role models". Whilst the last theme presented by student Wael Akram covered the issue of " Media Role Model in Using Social Media".
