The UQU Vice Presidency for Female Student Affairs organized a workshop entitled, "Academic Advising Plan: Between Reality and Expectations", via the virtual platform, with the aim of reviewing the roles of academic advising, and the mechanism for activating it in the colleges, under the auspices of the Vice President for Female Student Affairs, Dr. Sarah Al-Khuli.

The Assistant Vice President for Educational Affairs and Development, Dr. Najwa Samarqandi, stressed the university’s keenness to enhance and support academic advising plans for all the colleges at the university, improve their work mechanism, and upgrade them to an advanced level that contributes to achieving the desired goals.

The workshop included a presentation of some academic advising plans for the academic year 1441/1442 A.H., including the plans of the Deanship of the Joint First Year, the College of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies, the College of Business Administration, and the Jamoum University College. The vice deans of the Deanship of Admission and Registration also participated in responding to inquiries related to students and members of the academic staff.

The workshop came up with several recommendations for the success of the academic advising process; these included setting a clear plan for the advising process in the college, preparing a regulatory guide for it, and educating academics on the role of the academic adviser. Moreover, the workshop recommended following up and supervising the progress of work, preparing monthly and annual reports, and providing an informational archive about the academic advising plan, to refer to when needed.

The workshop was attended by representatives of the Deanship of Admission and Registration, college vice deans, deputy heads of the departments, academic advising coordinators, and a group of academic staff members from all headquarters. At the end of the workshop, Dr. Sarah Al-Khuli honored the participating colleges and staff.

Academic advising is regarded the first support for students in their university career, especially in light of the continuation of distance education. It provides them with the easiest way to find direct solutions to academic problems. It also provides them with the information and skills that enable them to improve their academic achievements, empower them to advance and overcome obstacles, and motivate the outstanding students, facilitating the use of their talents and helping them to produce their best efforts at a high standard of quality.
