Developing a Strategy to Transform Umm Al-Qura University into an Entrepreneurial University

Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, organized an interactive workshop entitled: "The Entrepreneurial University Project". The workshop was held in conjunction with the Global Entrepreneurship Week, in the presence of the Vice President for Scientific Research, Prof. Abdul-Wahhab Al-Resini, and the participation of the Vice President for Female Student Affairs, Dr. Sarah Al-Khouli, the Assistant Vice President for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Ayman Johargy, the Dean of the Institute of Consulting Research and Studies, Dr. Ali Al-Sha`iri, and the Dean of the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Muwaffaq Urijah.

The Assistant Vice President for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Ayman Johargy, moderated the workshop, which highlighted the supportive strategies for finding non-traditional innovative solutions and for creating an environment that enables Umm Al-Qura University to transform into an entrepreneurial university.

The workshop focused on the main objectives of the university's entrepreneurial transformation strategy, foremost among which are innovation support programs, curriculum development, public and private sector interaction, leadership building and qualification, and measured impacts.

The recommendations of the workshop pinpointed the necessity of establishing a culture of entrepreneurship in society, developing the courage to face challenges, and spreading a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. This is in addition to the necessity of motivating university students and its employees to be innovative and to build knowledge, in order to meet the growing needs of society and strengthen the university's role and contributions to the national economy. Moreover, the workshop recommended the expansion of partnerships between universities and specialized international bodies, their participation in increasing the citizen's income, and the opening of different fields of investment in line with the New Universities System.

The Dean of the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Muwaffaq Urijah, appreciated the support of the President of Umm Al-Qura University, Prof. Moaddi bin Muhammad Aal Madh-hab, his keenness to achieve the entrepreneurial transformation of the university to achieve the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030, his participation in developing the strategic plan for entrepreneurial transformation, and his support and encouragement for the creative energies of the university students and for providing them with sufficient expertise to enable them to enter the field of innovation and entrepreneurship.
