UQU President Discusses Aspects of Cooperation with the CEO of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property

The President of Umm Al-Qura University, Prof. Moaddi bin Muhammad Aal Madh-hab, today, discussed aspects of cooperation with the CEO of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Muhammed Al-Suwailam, in the fields of supporting intellectual property in the university, spreading the culture of innovation, and intellectual property rights. This came during the meeting held between the two parties at the university campus in Abdiyyah, in the presence of the Supervisor General of the Intellectual Property Management Office at the university, Dr. Muwaffaq bin Muhammad Urijah.

The President of the University welcomed the CEO of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, and expressed the readiness of Umm Al-Qura University to fully cooperate with the authority to increase the level of innovation, disseminate the culture of entrepreneurship, and protect property rights of innovative and entrepreneurial outcomes. He underscored the university's pursuit and constant keenness, via the Intellectual Property Management Office, to protect the property rights of patents for university students and academic staff members, register patents and trademarks, license them through the local and international commissions and institutions, and turn them into tangible products to serve the community and the knowledge economy.

On his part, Dr. Abdulaziz Al Suwailam provided an introductory overview of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, explaining its regulatory role for the fields of intellectual property in the kingdom as well as its tasks of supporting, developing, protecting and upgrading these fields according to the best international practices. This is in addition to expanding the competitive fields in this regard to contribute to sustainable national and economic development, boost means of cooperation between the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property and UQU, and accelerate the pace of progress in achieving the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030.
