The UQU President, Prof. Moaddi bin Muhammad Aal Madh-hab, at his office, launched the competition of the ‘Youth-Led Research on the History of Makkah’, organized by the Chair of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for Studies on the History of Makkah Al-Mukarramah with the objective of disseminating historical knowledge about Makkah and its civilizational monuments and supporting studies and research concerned with Umm Al-Qura heritage. The event was attended by the Chair Professor, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sharif.
The UQU President expressed his appreciation for the role of the chair, which bears a valuable name for all of us, and its efforts in giving the needed concern to the history of Makkah and in enriching the research and heritage arena, as well as its valuable studies and great services provided for the history of Umm Al-Qura and its civilizational heritage. He then lauded the continuous support of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his Crown Prince provided for documenting the specialized historical and research studies of Makkah and for developing the heritage and national places, consolidating historical sites and celebrating its national symbols and figures.
The Chair Professor explained that the competition targets all male and female students of UQU, in all phases of study and scientific specializations, with a variety of themes which enable everyone to enrich the competition with their innovative and creative ideas, use their potential and energies in writing the history of the nation and its ancient heritage, and preserve the material and moral capabilities witnessed in the prosperous Saudi era.
Dr. Al-Sharif added that the award aims at serving the History and Civilization of Makkah, giving the needed concern to the youth, disseminating knowledge of the history of their glorious country and nation, and developing their citizenship spirit. The award also aims at harnessing the civilizational heritage and the outstanding heritage monuments and sites to support the economical and cultural development and boost the tourism sector. This is in addition to contributing to achieving the university's vision and its role in serving the community and scientific research.
