His Excellency the UQU President, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, in his office today, signed a contract to establish the Serafi Chair for Research of Coronary Heart Disease (SCRCHD) with Sheikh Hamza Saleh Serafi, representing Saleh Hamza Serafi Charity. The aim of the chair is to support research related to coronary artery diseases, investigate their causes, and educate the citizens, residents and pilgrims about their adverse effects on health.

His Excellency the President of Umm Al-Qura University stressed that the establishment of this academic chair comes as a laudable addition to the academic chairs that are supervised by the university, which have accomplished many great achievements. His Excellency also lauded the efforts extended by Al-Serafi Charity in this regard, congratulating those in charge of establishing the chair, which will contribute to supporting scientific research in the field of coronary artery diseases to serve the Saudi community. The academic chair will also strengthen the partnership of Umm Al-Qura University with civil society institutions in general and businessmen in particular, and contribute to sustainable development, in line with the generous support and care of the wise leadership (may Allah protect them) towards serving scientific research and its constant eagerness to motivate researchers in various fields.

On his part, the Chair Professor, Dr. Abdul-Haleem Salem Serafi, stated that the chair aims to conduct scientific research to investigate the causes of coronary artery diseases, being the top cause of deaths globally. The chair also seeks to provide specialized scientific consultation, cooperate with similar academic authorities inside and outside the Saudi Kingdom in the field of the chair, and educate the Saudi community members as well as the pilgrims on how to avoid coronary artery diseases by following the correct healthy lifestyle, eating nutritious food, and exercising regularly, within the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030.

The signing of the contract was attended by the UQU Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Prof. Abdul-Wahhab Al-Resini, the Dean of the Deanship of Scientific Research, Prof. Muhammad Al-Soufi, the Vice Dean of Scientific Research for Research Chairs, Dr. Abdul-Ilah Al-Ghamdi, and the Chair Professor and Cardiovascular Disease Consultant at the College of Medicine, Dr. Abdul-Haleem Salem Serafi, as well as Eng. Anas bin Saleh Serafi.
