The student Elham Mulla from the College of Designs in Umm Al-Qura University won the first place during the college’s participation in the competition to design a poster on ‘connectivity’ organized by King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) at its annual conference for the year 2021 A.C. Mulla relied on hologram technology and the extent of its spread and development, both in artificial intelligence as well as in the medical and other fields. In her project, she focused on two points: photo pixels and people connected through social networks and other programs.

Moreover, the student Ibtihal Rashid came second for designing two connected loops, each forming an interconnected network based on the importance of communication between people as an unbreakable chain. The network symbolized cognition and information within the loops.

The student Ammar Beiru won the third place in the competition for his design of a visual stimulus that covers and visually highlights the conference topics, drawing the participants situated at set positions at a distance from each other, in different places. He used the golden ratio rule to express group communication using spontaneous colored lines and shapes that show a sense of movement and symbolize networks and technical communication.

The competition was launched with the creation of a poster entitled: ‘Connectivity’, using Adobe Illustrator, for the annual conference held at KAUST. The competition aimed to show the creativity skills of the Saudi students who presented distinct and innovative posters that reflected their creativity and capabilities in highlighting the conference main theme: connectivity.

The conference targets students specializing in science and technology from various Saudi and international universities, as well as academics and researchers from local and international entities.

The Dean of the College of Designs in Umm Al-Qura University, Dr. Rania Abdul-Rahman, stated that the college, thanks to the support and care of the President of the University, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, seeks to pave all possible ways for UQU students to showcase their talents and develop their skills. Students are also urged to transform their ideas to innovative projects and creative designs through participation in such international competitions, which motivate them to be creative and innovative in their fields of specialization.
