Umm Al-Qura University Council Holds Its Fourth Session for the Academic Year 1441 A.H. Remotely

On behalf of His Excellency the Minister of Education and Head of the UQU Council, Dr. Hamad bin Muhammad bin Hamad Aal Al-Sheikh, His Excellency the UQU President, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, chaired the fourth session of the University Council for the academic year 1440/1441 A.H. on Monday 27 Sha`ban, 1441 A.H. This session is considered the first ever virtual session for the university council, which was held via interactive video conferencing.

His Excellency the UQU President inaugurated the session with the following speech:

Praise be to Allah and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family and companions.. On behalf of His Excellency the Minister of Education and the Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Hamad bin Muhammad bin Hamad Aal Al-Sheikh, I would like to inaugurate this session and welcome all the attendees of this fourth virtual session: Their Excellencies the members of the council; and His Excellency Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Salih, the General Secretariat of the Higher Education Council ... Everybody is welcome!

Dear colleagues ... I do not want to take much of your time, but it's my pleasure to say that during the current extraordinary circumstances witnessed in our beloved country, there are not enough words and expressions to appreciate the unremitting gifts, services and blessings from our leaders. Such matters make us more prosperous, stable, and proud, and make us hold our heads high. Really, our king and nation are matchless! May Allah perpetuate our country's security and stability, protecting it from every harm, and protect our rulers and sustain their dignity! We also pray for Allah, the Almighty, to grant everyone success in doing what He loves and pleases Him.

** At the end of the session, the Secretary General and member of the University Council, Dr. Thamir bin Hamdan Al-Harbi, clarified that the honorable council discussed a number of topics listed on the agenda of its fourth session for the academic year (1440/1441). This is in addition to studying and discussing many academic, educational and administrative topics related to many scientific and educational aspects. Moreover, he confirmed that the council had taken appropriate decisions concerning these topics. The topics that were included in the agenda of the session are listed as follows:

Request for approval of the executive plan for academic procedures and the mechanisms of holding the final exams for all study levels in the university. This is as well as requesting the approval of the recommendations of all relevant colleges, institutes, the English Language Center and the deanships that were issued for approval, which have been planned according to the ministerial instructions on 10/08/1441 A.H. and which are in line with the preventive and precautionary procedures and measures adopted by the state, may Allah support it.

Request to approve the membership and the renewal of the membership of a number of faculty members in the councils of some colleges for a period of two years.

Request to approve the re-enrollment of a master's student in the College of Da`wah and Fundamentals of Religion.

Request to approve the UQU Strategic Plan and the UQU Executive Plan for five years, according to the form submitted to the council.

Request to approve the numbers of students who will be accepted in the graduate and diploma levels at the university and its branches for the next academic year (1441/1442 A.H.).

Request to approve the two recommendations of the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies to establish a PhD program in Art Education and update the MSc program in Art Education, submitted by the Department of Art Education in the UQU College of Education.

Request to approve the updated performance indicators proposed by the Deanship of Academic Development and Quality in accordance with the developed standards launched by the National Center for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA), 2018 edition.

Request for approval to establish the Saudi Scientific Society for Parasitology and Tropical Diseases according to the articles of its executive regulations provided by the Department of Parasitology at the College of Medicine.

Request to delegate the powers of the University Council to His Excellency the Minister of Education and Chairman of the University Council regarding urgent matters during the summer vacation of the current academic year 1440/1441 A.H.

This is as announced by the Secretary General of UQU and university council member, Dr. Thamir bin Hamdan Al-Harbi, on 27 Sha`ban, 1441 A.H.
