In parallel with the exam periods in UQU, the Tobacco and Narcotics Combat Charity Society (Kafa) in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, with the cooperation of the Anti-Smoking and Narcotics Control Committee at Umm Al-Qura University, held an awareness tour on Monday morning, in the UQU academic hub. The tour aimed to raise awareness and warn the students against the dangers of tobacco and narcotics.
On his part, the Head of the Awareness and Education Department at the Tobacco and Narcotics Combat Charity Society (Kafa), Muhammad Al-Houli, warned the students against the dangers of tobacco and narcotics, highlighting their multiple negative effects on the nervous system, liver, ears, nose, throat, and lungs, as well as their dangers that extend to the community and the environment surrounding the smoker. Moreover, he also pointed out their negative impact on a person's psychological state, including: anger issues, behavioral disorders, anxiety, and permanent depression.
Mr. Uwais Al-Rawas, the educational exhibition official at the Kafa Society, urged the students to visit the anti-smoking clinic and avail themselves of the Anti-Smoking Program held by the Ministry of Health in cooperation with the Anti-Smoking and Narcotics Control Committee at Umm Al-Qura University. The clinic provides the smokers who wish to quit smoking a treatment program under the supervision of specialized doctors, along with the needed examinations and pulmonary function tests (PFTs) to measure how well their lungs work. It also provides medicinal tablets and patches that help reduce the urge to smoke by 50 to 60%, and empower the smoker to boost his willpower and quit smoking.
It is noteworthy that the clinic is located next to the university's Siran restaurant, and the working hours are (10 –12 p.m.), every day of the week except Wednesday.
