A specialized symposium organized by the Institute of Arabic Language for Non-Native Speakers at Umm Al-Qura University revealed some secrets of the use of artificial intelligence algorithms to adapt a robot and feed it with orders to serve the Arabic language. The scientific symposium was entitled: “Arabic Language and Artificial Intelligence”. The symposium was organized within the activities of the World Arabic Language Day, and was moderated by Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Qarni, the Vice Dean for Educational Affairs at the institute. The lectures were presented by Dr. Ahmad Al-Bashiri, a computer-aided education specialist; Dr. Ahmad Al-Hindi, an artificial intelligence specialist; and Dr. Ayman Al-Ghamdi, a specialist in computational linguistics and language processing.
Dr. Ahmad Al-Bashiri gave an overview of the history of employing computer technologies and artificial intelligence in serving the Arabic language, and the pivotal role that modern technologies play in the field of education in general, and linguistic research in particular. Moreover, he presented a practical model for using virtual reality glasses in various specialized applications to solve a number of problems related to machine translation and education.
Next, Dr. Ahmad Al-Hindi presented a paper entitled: "Artificial Intelligence Algorithms in Arabic Text Processing". He demonstrated the concept of artificial intelligence algorithms, and explained the difference between traditional programming and programming based on artificial intelligence algorithms that use the ability of the machine to learn to solve computer problems and predict them before they happen. Furthermore, the lecturer presented a live experiment to develop an automated dialogue robot that was trained to respond promptly to students' enquiries directed towards the Deanship of Postgraduate Studies and the Deanship of Admission and Registration.
On the artificial intelligence algorithms in the service of the Noble Qur'an, Dr. Ayman Al-Ghamdi presented a brief summary of artificial intelligence and its applications in various fields, its impact in providing an unprecedented amount of huge linguistic data, and the presence of superior computing power to analyze and process the data. He stressed the importance of inter-research in computational linguistics and language processing, and the impact of this on the development of many language applications that serve the Noble Qur'an and facilitate the spread of its sciences and knowledge to Muslims around the world.
