A group of students from the Microbiology Division of the Department of Biology at the College of Applied Sciences organized a scientific meeting in which they reviewed the results of their research conducted last summer as a part of "Seminar" course. The meeting was held at the Microbiology Research Laboratory of the Department of Biology. It was presented and supervised by His Excellency Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Saeedi.
The meeting was held on Tuesday morning 7 Rabi` Al-Thani, 1441 A.H. in the college council's meeting hall. Further, it was attended by some professors of the Division; namely, Prof. Dr. Khalid Al-Banna, Prof. Dr. Jamal Haridi, Dr. Husain Abu Al-Reesh, Dr. Muhammad Khalil Al-Munjid, and Dr. Fahd Bazaid. In addition, the meeting was administrated and supervised by His Excellency Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Saeedi.
Four scientific papers were presented at the meeting, the main theme of which was the impact of a number of local natural plant extracts on the inhibition of the growth of some pathogens of medical importance. For their part, the students discussed with faculty staff member attendees the importance of their research, methods of conducting, and the obtained results. The overall objective of the scientific papers was to seek new and effective alternatives to natural antibiotics, bearing in mind growing risk of the spread of antibiotic-resistant microbes globally.
The students demonstrated a reasonable scientific performance reflecting quality of their education, efficiency of supervising their research, and excellent skills gained during their studies. The meeting concluded with a number of valuable recommendations and expressing thankfulness to His Excellency Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Saeedi for his supervisory and organizational efforts exerted at that meeting.
