Three Counseling Clinics on the Family Counseling Open Day

The Department of Psychology at Umm Al-Qura University participates in promoting the psychological aspects of different segments of society through the activities of the Family Counseling Open Day. The open day was organized by the department last Wednesday to raise awareness, educate university employees on the importance of family counseling, and assist family members in fulfilling their roles to address the problems they face by finding appropriate solutions that contribute to strengthening familial ties and achieving harmony in society in general.

 

The program supervisor, Dr. Huda Al-Shimimri, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology stated that the program included three mini-clinics to provide marital counseling and to introduce means of communication and dialogue between spouses. The program also had a family counseling corner, which concentrated on the nature of relationships between family members. The program provided a clinic dedicated to children and ways to develop their skills by playing and entertaining, and behavior modification techniques for people with special needs. It also included guidance sessions held to receive consultation requests relating to the areas that each corner covered.

 

Dr. Al-Shimimri affirmed the launching of open days each semester to cover all psychology specializations. Through this endeavor, experiences can be exchanged towards the development of scientific outputs, which can be formulated through ongoing events that serve the interests of the students of the department and university employees.

 

The program was attended by a group of doctoral students specialized in psychological counseling, as well as the Vice Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Abeer Al-Sabban, the Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology, Dr. Amal Badr, the Deputy Director of the Psychological and Educational Research Center, Dr. Amani bint Muhammad Al-Dusari, and a number of the university staff members and students.
