The Deanship of Student Affairs at Umm Al-Qura University, in the female sections at the headquarters of Al-Abdiyyah and Al-Zahir branches, launched a number of recreational and sports activities. This was in line with the objectives of the Quality of Life Program, in accordance with the Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to enhance the practice of sports activities in the community as well as develop and diversify recreational opportunities to meet the various needs of the population.
The Department of Sports Activities at the Vice Deanship of Student Affairs for Student Activities and Training chose the following sports: football, basketball, bow and arrow shooting, gymnastics, karate, yoga, and aerobics, to be the first sports activities launched in the UQU student competitions, within the "Free Sports" activities at the UQU's headquarters in Al-Abdiyyah. This step came in preparation for the start of the process of forming sports teams, to make the needed arrangements for organizing the tournament competitions for these games between the UQU colleges.
In this context, the UQU provided appropriate means of transportation for the female students from its headquarters in Al-Zahir to Al-Abdiyyah branch, where the competitions were held. Moreover, all UQU colleges nominated coordinators to codify the mechanisms of cooperation with the Department of Sports Activities to facilitate the organization of the events. This step came as a preparation for the announcement of the names of the students who wish to partake in these sports, followed by uploading a fitness examination form, after being filled out by the University Medical Center, to form the sports teams for each college in preparation for the launch of the College League.
In relation to such lauded efforts, the Vice Dean for Student Activities and Training, Dr. Nahlaa Hariri, highlighted the synchronized efforts exerted by the deanship, within this framework, in support of the sports activities.
Several private sector entities hastened to sponsor the event with the aim of preparing the students for the next stages.
In the same vein, and for the second week in a row, the UQU implemented the "Be Happy'' recreational program for students at the end of the school week, which aimed to develop and harness the skills and talents of the students by strengthening their psychological, social and academic capabilities, according to Dr. Amal Khairo, the Vice Dean of Student Affairs for Direction, Guidance, and Community Partnership.
On her part, the student Raghad Mandili admired the event, and lauded its effectiveness and role in offering recreation to the students, relieving them from the hard work performed during the school week, especially as it came simultaneously with the exam period.
Moreover, the student Aisha Muhammad said that the recreational program was very similar to a theme park, in terms of incorporating all recreational activities and embodying the finest details, starting with the game entry wristbands at all the gates of the activity hall, and the many different types of snacks and ice cream carts offering delicious flavors that appeal to the tastes of all visitors.
