On Sunday, 10 Rajab 1437 H., Dr. Bakri bin Maaouq Assas, the Uniersity President, discussed with Mr. Mohamed bin Mahdi Al-Harthi, the Director of Education in Makkah the mechanism of developing the educational work and upgrading educational programs in Makkah educational institutions. They also discussed the ways of benefiting from the UQU academic capacities in conducting the studies required to achieve the objectives of the educational process. The meeting was attended by Mr. Ahmed AlGhamdi, director of the department of planning and development at Makkah Directorate of Education, and was held at the UQU President’s office in Abdiya campus.

The University President welcomed the endeavors to establish cooperation with the Directorate of Education in consideration of the great human and research capacities offered by the University according to the highest standards. He indicated that the University’s role in the society is not confined to the educational aspect, but extends to cover other responsibilities such as serving the community and providing consultations and trainings.

He also said that the University provides scientific and consultation services to service-related entities in Makkah and offers training programs for all categories. Moreover, the University, through the College of Community Service and Continuous Education, runs many free summer training programs, hinting to the fact that the University has 35 colleges and institutes, 119 departments and 215 specializations that offer 596 programs, in addition to 12 research centers. 

Dr. Assas also pointed out that the University offers undergraduate and graduate education programs in Fiqh and Islamic theology and the related natural, applied, medical and engineering sciences, as well as humanities, social sciences, and languages. Furthermore, Umm Al-Qura University performs a positive role in scientific research through conducting and promoting research so as to find appropriate solutions to modern life requirements and trends.  

In the same context, Mr. Ahmed bin Mahdi Al-Harthi indicated that this meeting aimed at examining the scope of cooperation to develop the educational system, scrutinize its problems and resolve them through the expertise provided by specialized academics at the educational, social and psychological levels. He added that the Umm AL-Qura University has the high academic potential and educational experience and that the cooperation given by the University President to the programs that address the Directorate of Education staff is highly appreciated.
