Al-Leith University College began implementing its "Welcome to Pilgrims, Guests of Al-Rahman" initiative, which was presented by the supervisor and coordinator of the initiative, Dr. Rasha bint Samir Majlad. This initiative is part of the Makkah Cultural Forum for this year 1440 A.H. and is being held under the theme of "How can we develop our cities to serve Hajj and Umrah?" in Miqat Yalamlam on Tuesday evening, 25 Sha`ban, 1440 A.H. It is due to continue until the end of the holy month of Ramadan this year.
The inauguration of the initiative was attended by the University Vice President for Educational Affairs, Mr. Muhammad Al-Anzi, the Vice Dean of the College, Dr. Iman Al-Lihaibi, the Head of the Department of Social Service, Dr. Amir Al-Shahri, and a number of volunteering students from the Department of Social Service and the rest of the departments of the college, and employees.
The coordinator of the initiative at the Makkah Cultural Forum, Dr. Rasha bint Samir Majlad, has pointed out that a number of workshops have already been held in preparation of the implementation of the initiative, including its division into stages and tasks. It began by forming a team from the academic staff, students and employees, creating a link where volunteers can register on the college website and social media, and preparing a list of those who have registered (approximately 130 volunteers from the college students, academic staff, and employees). This is based on the importance of the initiative in the community and achieving the objectives of the strategic plan of the university under the banner of social responsibility, in line with the programs of Saudi Vision 2030.
She also pointed out that one of the objectives of the initiative is to develop social responsibility and activate the role of young people in Al-Leith Governorate in welcoming the guests of Al-Rahman, while spreading awareness about how to deal with the modern technology designed to serve pilgrims. In addition, they provide gifts to them, welcome them and bring joy and happiness to them by strengthening some of the old Islamic and Arab customs in welcoming the visitors of Miqat Yalamlam.
His Excellency the Dean of Al-Leith University College, Dr. Muhammad Al Maliki, explained that this initiative is in line with the strategic objectives of the Makkah Cultural Forum this year, through the promotion and development of volunteer work among students, and guiding it to achieve the comprehensive vision of the Makkah Cultural Forum, i.e., "How to be role models."
It is worth mentioning that this initiative was reviewed during the cultural week program of the Makkah Cultural Forum in its third session, held on Friday 17 Sha`ban 1440 A.H. at the Hilton Hotel in Jeddah. It was inaugurated by His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, the Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Governor of the Makkah Region, under the theme of "How can we develop our cities to serve Hajj and Umrah?" The UQU offered the Al-Leith University College initiative entitled "Welcome to Pilgrims, Guests of Al-Rahman" as one of the forum's initiatives for this year.
