The Institute of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for Hajj and Umrah Research at Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the Environmental and Health Research Department, obtained the Certificate of Environmental Pre-qualification from the General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection. This certificate is a license to monitor the quality of air, water, soil, and emissions. The license was granted based on the significant potential of the institute, which consists of specialized cadres and laboratories equipped with the latest environmental and climatic monitoring devices.
The General Supervisor of the Institute and the UQU President, His Excellency Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, saw the license and expressed his appreciation for obtaining it. He then thanked the institute for this unprecedented achievement, not only at the level of the university but also at the level of the city of Makkah. He pointed out that the use of the license should be directed to the development of research studies and environmental projects in the field of serving Allah's guests in the Two Holy Cities and the Sacred Sites, along with the other work and services provided by Umm Al-Qura University.
The Head of the Environmental and Health Research Department, Dr. Abdullah Al-Siba`i, said that the Institute has fifteen permanent fixed and mobile environmental monitoring stations distributed in the two Holy Cities and Sacred Sites, in addition to specialized laboratories in the fields of chemistry, soil, water, health, nutrition, as well as Geographic Information System laboratories (GIS) and remote sensing. Finally, he extended his thanks to His Excellency the University President for his unlimited support to the institute's contribution in supporting the Hajj and Umrah system, and also to the Dean of the Institute, Dr. Sami Brahmin, for his continuous support and diligent follow-up in the implementation of qualitative projects.
