Umm Al-Qura University Vice President for Campuses, Prof. Abdul-Majeed Al-Ghamdi, today launched the “Makkah: Between Heritage and Originality" festival. The event was held at the headquarters of the General Department of Museums at the university's campus in Al-Aziziyyah, in the presence of the Dean of University Studies, Dr. Halah Al-Amoudi.
Dr. Fahd Al-Maliki, the Supervisor of the General Department of Museums, gave an introduction about the different sections of the festival's exhibition and its accompanying events, including a number of entertaining, commercial, service and miscellaneous activities of some governmental and non-governmental bodies as well as the non-profit sector. These organizations presented their role and services to enhance the standing of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, and link its genuine heritage to the present.
The exhibition included diverse handcraft contributions, whose presentation was supervised by "Makkan Women" Society to contribute in the revival of the Makkan legacies. The exhibits included old Makkan clothes and handicrafts. Moreover, the exhibition's sections displayed the goods of productive families, aiming to act as a gate for such families in building investment relations that will result in business projects.
Prof. Abdul-Majeed Al-Ghamdi appreciated the endeavors of the General Department of Museums in boosting community partnership with various actors to present entertaining events as well as diverse cultural and scientific programs for the Makkan community in the university's historical location.
UQU Vice President for Campuses, Prof. Abdul-Majeed Al-Ghamdi, also inaugurated the branch of the Saudi Historical Society in Makkah in the presence of Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Zaidan, the President of the Society, and a number of the members of the Saudi Historical Society in the different Saudi universities. Moreover, he visited the accompanying exhibition and viewed various products and editions as well as the conferences' records issued by the Saudi Historical Society.
