Within the framework of UQU’s social responsibility, and coinciding with the international awareness campaign on breast cancer, the UQU President, Dr. Bakri bin Maatouq Assas, launched the “Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign” at the College of Dentistry. The event was organized by the Student Club at the College of Dentistry with the aim of raising awareness on breast cancer. Held at the Dentistry Educational Hospital on campus, the event was attended by the Dean of the College, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Khawatani, the Vice-deans of the college, and the faculty members.
In his word, Dr. Al-Khawatani stressed on the importance of raising the awareness of the society on the symptoms of the disease, and undergoing regular check-ups to help combat the disease and its symptoms. Further, he praised Dr. Assas for the attention he pays to the activities of the college, which enables it to offer further programs and societal activities; especially with the availability of high-qualified human calibers.
On his part, Dr. Assas pointed out that such activities contribute to developing the skills of the community members, and reinforcing the culture of awareness amongst them. In addition, he extended his thanks to the event organizers from the students of the College of Dentistry, and wished all further success and service to their nation, ummah, and society.
The event, also, witnessed the participation of the Chairperson of Association of Breast Cancer, Dr. Malak Oulwi, who delivered a lecture –on girls’ campus- on the disease, its symptoms, its side effects, and ways of prevention and treatment.
Moreover, a charity bazar was organized by the students in collaboration with Al-Birr Charity Association, in which students’ handicrafts were presented, for their revenues to be granted to breast cancer associations to serve breast cancer patients.
Eventually, Dr. Assas visited the clinics of the Educational Hospital, listened to a detailed presentation on the awareness campaign’s program, and checked the publications and flyers distributed to the hospital’s visitors.
