His Excellency the President of the University: We Aspire to Establish an Integrated Medical City

His Excellency the President of Umm Al-Qura University expressed the aspirations of the Administration of the University to not only finish the university hospital that serves pilgrims and visitors of the Sacred Mosque, but also establish an integrated medical city. This is in order to meet the needs, and qualify and train the students of the medical colleges. His Excellency gave this declaration while heading the meeting of the advisory board at the College of Medicine in the meeting hall of the college. His Excellency the Vice President of the University for Development and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Hani Ghazi, His Excellency the Vice President for Educational Affairs, Prof. Abdulaziz bin Rashad Suruji, the Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Abdul-Salam Wali, as well as the vice deans of the College of Medicine and members of the advisory board attended the meeting.

His Excellency Prof. Bafail stressed the great role that the College of Medicine at Umm Al-Qura University plays, praising its outstanding educational and academic programs, and its remarkable outcomes. He invited businessmen and those concerned with the medical and health sector to cooperate with the university in establishing the medical city.

The meeting witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the College of Medicine and the Shifa' Society. The university was represented in signing the memorandum of understanding by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Abdul-Salam Wali, while Shifa' Society was represented by its Director, Dr. Khalid Tayyib. The memorandum aims at making use of the exchange of experience between the two parties in developing medical services for the Makkan community and pilgrims, training students and encouraging them to volunteer in the society's programs, the society making use of the academic staff of the college through the staff's participation in the society's consulting clinics, forming partnerships to establish conferences and symposiums, activating participating in scientific research of mutual concern, and forming a team from the two parties to promote different forms of cooperation between the two bodies.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the university and Bagedo and Dr. Erfan Hospital. In signing the memorandum, the university was represented by His Excellency the Vice President for Educational Affairs, Dr. Abdul-Aziz bin Rashad Suruji, while the hospital was represented by Dr. Adnan Al-Mazru`. The memorandum aimed at training and supervising graduate students in the internship year, developing training plans for students, encouraging the participation of academic staff, providing work opportunities for graduates of the college, and endorsing cooperation between the two sides in a number of medical fields.

The meeting discussed the future strategic plan of the College of Medicine during the coming five years, from 2019 to 2023 A.C., as well as the educational and research programs of the college.

Moreover, His Excellency the President of Umm Al-Qura University visited the medical genetics laboratory at the College of Medicine, and the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center. He also viewed the students' medical experiments, and listened to a detailed explanation about the programs offered to students at the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center. This is because this center comprises a number of facilities and technical equipment that enhance the level of the training services offered to the students; it contains a developed electronic system (audio and video) that controls all the facilities in the center, in addition to the advanced simulation items that are connected to computers.
