A World Heritage Museum to Be Established by Umm Al-Qura University to Support the Cultural and Tourism Industries

Umm Al-Qura University, in collaboration with the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, intends to establish a heritage museum similar to internationally known museums. This idea is considered one of the basic element of the Saudi Vision 2030 that aims at supporting the cultural and tourism industries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

This idea was put forward during the meeting today, Wednesday, 8 Jumada Al-Thani, 1440 A.H., which was held by the UQU Vice President for Development and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Hani bin Ghazi, on behalf of His Excellency the UQU President, with the Designated General Manager of the Museums Department at the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, Mr. Muhammad Al-Ahmari. During the meeting, the proposal to establish the university museum in collaboration with the Saudi Commission for Tourism was discussed. The meeting was held in the presence of the Vice President for University Campuses, Dr. Abdul-Majid Al-Ghamdi, and the Supervisor of the Museum Department at the University, Dr. Fahd Al-Maliki.

The UQU Vice President for Development and Entrepreneurship mentioned that the university is rich in proficient and experienced Saudi staff, and has accumulated expertise in issues related to heritage, museum management, and documentation of historical works. He also clarified that the university museum will occupy an area of more than 50,000 square meters, and will be established with the support and follow-up of the UQU President, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail. It is worth noting that this project will be close to the Holy Sites.

The Designated General Manager of the Museums Department at the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage asserted that the Saudi Commission will serve as a supervising and consulting body for the UQU Museum Project. Another meeting was held in the presence of the delegation of Umm Al-Qura University, led by the Vice President for the University Campuses and the Vice President of the Saudi Commission. During this meeting, the attendees tackled the steps in the implementation of the museum project and its duration, and discussed the locations that had been suggested for the building.
