The UQU Deanship of Student Affairs has launched the "Grand Competition" for students of both genders contesting to win the "University Role Model" title. With a view to activating the value of "role model" in the student's life, the competition has been organized as part of the initiative dubbed: "how to be a role model". This initiative represents the insight of HRH Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah and Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
A meeting was held in this respect, chaired by the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Omar bin Taha al-Saqqaf, with the Vice Deans of the Deanship, Dr. Talal Methni, Dr. Omar Sonbul, Dr. Saeed Halawani, and Dr. Hemdan al-Harbi. The meeting was held at a meeting room in the Deanship Building in Al-Abdiyah Campus. The Deanship vice-deans from the Grils Section participated in the meeting through video conferencing; they are: Dr. Kholoud Abul-Naja, Dr. Mona bent Muhammad Hejji, and Dr. Fatema bent Abdullah al-Aidarous. The meeting was held with the aim of discussing the ways to give impetus to the initiative across the University, by way of organizing several programs, activities and events. The underlying objective of all such activities is to enhance the effectiveness of "role model" in reality. The competition comes within this context, in which UQU students shall participate to win the most reputable and honorable title amongst students; that is: "University Role Model."
The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Amr al-Saqqaf, stated that the competition shall be held on two major phases. In the first phase, students of each college shall compete to win the "College Role Model" title. This is to be followed by the second phase of the competition, in which winners of the first phase shall compete to win the "University Role Model" title.
Activities of the competition, according to Dr. Al-Saqqaf, shall extend all through the two semesters of this year academic year. And the results shall be announced by the end of the second semester. Winners shall receive valuable awards, he said. He went on to say that this is not the only activity intended for activating the initiative: "how to be a role model." Through its general and specific programs, as well as student clubs, advising and orientation centers, and its awareness campaigns targeting UQU students, the Deanship has been placing particular emphasis on the concept of "role model". In doing so, the Deanship seeks to entrench this concept in male and female students alike. In this spirit, lectures, seminars, fora, competitions and exhibitions shall be organized; all seeking to revive such a lofty value both inside and outside the University community.
For their part, the Vice Deans have expressed their pleasure with this generous initiative kicked off by HRH the Emir of Makkah. Reflecting his farsightedness, the initiative is fueled by his staunch belief in the leading role of Makkah. They lauded, in the same manner, the keent interest shown by the UQU President, Dr. Bakri bin Maatouq Assas, and the Vice President for Educational Affairs, in supporting the deanship's various activities and events.
