The General Secretary of the Union of the Arab Historians recently granted the "Shield of Prominent Historians", to Prof. Lamya' Al-Shaf`i, a history professor at UQU. This was during a celebration held by the Union on the sidelines of its annual conference in Cairo, Egypt.

Among those who were also granted the Shield were Dr. Abdul-Latif Al-Humayyid, from the Department of History at Al-Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University, and Dr. Ilham Al-Babtain from the Department of History at King Saud University.

It is worth noting that the Saudi presence at the Union's conferences is always an active one and this conference is no exception of this active engagement. The Saudi academic participation in the research activities of this year’s conference represented a great deal of importance.

The Union of the Arab Historians, which is a non-governmental organization and one of the organizations affiliated to the Arab League, enjoys a legal personality, and is financially and administratively independent.
