Deanship of Scientific Research Organizes a Lecture Entitled 'Reviews on Scientific Research Methodologies and Techniques'

The UQU Deanship of Scientific Research, represented by the Islamic Studies Research Center, in cooperation with the Saudi Fiqh Society, held a lecture entitled 'Reviews on Scientific Research Methodologies and Techniques'. The lecture was delivered by His Excellency Prof. Sheikh Saleh bin Abdullah bin Humaid, a member of the Council of Senior Scholars and Chancellor at the Royal Court, in the presence of His Excellency the UQU President, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, vice-presidents, college deans, and postgraduate students. The lecture was held in King Abdul Aziz Historical Hall at the University City in Al-Abdiyyah.

The lecture started with a recitation of the Qur'an, followed by a speech delivered by the Vice-President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Thamir bin Hamdan Al-Harbi, in which he praised the efforts exerted by His Excellency Prof. Sheikh Saleh bin Huamid in the field of research. Dr. Thamir also praised Sheikh Saleh's practical expertise in scientific research methodologies and techniques. He referred to His Excellency's scientific lessons and sermons that served the Saudi society. Dr. Thamir also praised the support and guidance of Prof. Bafail with regard to the activities and programs of the Vice-Presidency for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research. After Dr. Thamir's speech, a poem was recited by one of the representatives of the Deanship of Scientific Research, which pleased the attendees.

Afterwards, the lecture started and was run by Dr. Muhammad Al-Sawwat, the Director of the Islamic Studies Research Center at the Deanship of Scientific Research. During the lecture, Prof. Bin Humaid gave a brief account of the latest scientific research methodologies and techniques, and the manner of applying scientific research methodologies in serving Islamic studies research. In addition, he touched on many critical views on current scientific research methodologies. He talked about the skills required by researchers, the definition of scientific research and its basic components, the role of scientific research in acquiring knowledge, and creativity and innovation in the different fields of scientific research. Sheikh Bin Humaid also mentioned that it is necessary to spread the culture of research and innovation in order to identify those who are interested in scientific research, and to encourage communication with the researchers. In addition, he clarified that links should be created between the internal and external research communities, and that the status of scientific research in society should be enhanced.

During the lecture, Dr. Bin Humaid stressed that universities should draw attention to their outstanding researchers, provide them with a mechanism for publishing and utilizing their research, and give research its due value and status. He also added that prominent universities are recognized by the remarkable research they conduct.

Dr. Bin Huamid discussed the definition of scientific research, saying that it is a well-organized intellectual process for studying a specific problem on firm bases and in an informed manner with the aim of coming to a conclusion about a new fact. Moreover, scientific methodology helps the researcher organize, analyze, and present his ideas. He also clarified that scientific methodology is based on the support of innovation and recognition of its innovative tools. Afterwards, the attendees were given the opportunity to ask questions and take part in a discussion about the lecture.

At the end of the lecture, His Excellency Prof. Bin Humaid received a commemorative plaque from the Saudi Fiqh Society, presented by its representative, Dr. Muhammad Al-Sawwat. Prof. Bin Humaid also received a plaque containing a memorial poem from the Deanship of Scientific Research, presented by its dean, Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Ahdal.
