Mass Communication students performed and broadcast a radio program as their first hands-on experience in live broadcasting, at Jeddah radio station during their scientific visit to the radio building on Sunday 26 Safar, 1440 A.H. The group was headed by Dr. Salim Urijah, the Head of the Mass Communication Department; Dr. Wajdy Hilmy, the Associate Professor of the Mass Communication, the TV director, and the visit supervisor; and Dr. Muhammad Gharib, Professor of Mass Communication.
This experience is considered to be training for students on ‘how to introduce a radio program’. It also provides them with the required skills in mass communication and the practical experience in this regard, in the framework of the close cooperation between the College of Social Sciences and the Mass Communication institutions.
They were received by the Radio's General Manager Mashal bin Awad Al-Thubaity, Deputy Director of Programs Sultan Al-Ruwaqy, and Deputy Director of Production Bandar bin Ahmad Al-Asiry. The students listened to a detailed explanation on the process of broadcasting radio programs. They also visited the studios of Radio Nidaa Islam to learn the steps taken in preparing and carrying out program plans.
On his part, the Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Dr. Adnan bin Nury Al-Harby, expressed his happiness for the participation of Mass Communication students in preparing and introducing radio programs, which is considered to be the best way to gain experience in broadcasting and develop enough confidence to stand before the microphone and face the audience. He confirmed that the College will continue to support such visits to keep on improving students' skills through practical participation in media productions. This support will be given by increasing and supporting these visits by the Deanship of the College.
The Head of the Mass Communication Department, Dr. Salim Urijah, praised the level and the efficiency of the students of the Radio and TV Division in their interaction with the radio team. He said that this efficiency came as a result of the constant training in the radio and TV studio at the department. He expressed his thanks to the General Manager of Jeddah Radio for receiving the students, and giving them a chance to train in the radio studios.
At the end of the visit, Mashal bin Awad Al-Thubaity praised UQU Mass Communication students for their scientific distinction, and their keenness to be familiarized with modern aspects in the field of radio broadcasting. He added that Mass Communication students will be given the chance to be trained at Jeddah Radio and Radio Nidaa Islam.
