Dr. Alaa Mahdy Manshy, Assistant Professor of Physical Chemistry in the Chemistry Department at Umm Al-Qura University, published a scientific research paper in the notable scientific journal of Nature Nanotechnology. The study of the researcher handled the possibility of using gold nano-bars, after their surface had been geometrically processed by associating them with thiol to produce Au-Thio. The processed substance was used in operations within cells by transferring drugs and genes, without any resulting negative or toxic effects on the cells.
The Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences at Umm Al-Qura University, Dr. Hatim Al-Tas, pointed out that this scientific achievement comes as a result of the support and interest paid to the College by His Excellency Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU). This also comes in line with the vision of the Kingdom of 2030 and fulfills the aspirations of the wise leadership–may Allah support them–to develop education and research. He called on the college staff to work on developing their scientific research projects and publishing them in various international scientific journals to serve the society.
