Dr. Abdullah bin Omar Bafeel, President of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), said that the number of male and female students who were nominated for admission during the academic year 1439/1440 AH in the Bachelor's degree at the University's headquarters and its branches in Jamoum, Al-Lith, Adham and Al-Qunfudah reached 12153 ones; the acceptance of 9852 of whom was confirmed and their university numbers were issued on the Unified Admission Portal. He pointed out that there will be a promotion process on the vacant seats, which have not been confirmed by the candidates, after the tenth of Dhu'l-Qi'dah, stressing that the university is keen on the principle of transparency in the admission process, and for this purpose, applicants can see the lowest rates closed by academic departments.

This was declared during the press conference, which was headed by Dr. Bafeel, organized by UQU’s Department of Public Relations and attended by Dr. Abdelaziz bin Rashad Suroji, UQU vice president for Educational Affairs; Dr. Hashim Al –Samadani, dean of Admission and Registration Deanship; and Dr. Khaled Al-Thaqfi, vice dean of the Admission and Registration Deanship.  The press conference was the meeting hall of UQU President’s office, at Al-bediya Campus.

Dr. Abdullah extolled the support given by the wise leadership – May be supported by Allah- that contributed to harnessing the educational and academic environment at the university's headquarters in Makkah and its branches, reaching its capacity to accept this year 1439/1440 AH more than 16 thousand male and female students to all the academic programs offered by the university through the preparatory year and its three tracks "medical, administrative and  engineering and computer," as well as the direct admission to the theoretical colleges, and programs of the preparatory year and evening preparatory year, and programs of Community College diplomas.

In this regard, Dr. Abdulaziz explained that the university in its admission process of this year 1439/1440 AH is keen to harness the latest technology in order to serve its male and female students who want to enter the university; whereas each student can make all the admission stages that have been identified in five easy steps, and everyone can handle them through the Unified Admission Portal.

Also, Dr. Abdulaziz said that the work is under way to develop new specialties as well as modernize existing disciplines to conform to the Kingdom vision 2030, pointing out that more than 50 study plans have been updated at the university's headquarters in Makkah and its branches in the provinces of Jamoum, Al-Lith, Al-Qunfudah and Adham. He referred that the University Vice-Presidency for Educational Affairs, through the departments and cadres working under its management, began to download courses through the applications of smart devices and in innovative and interactive ways.

In turn, Dr. Hashim said that the most appealing disciplines in the admission of this year 1439/1440 AH is the Department of Regulations at the College of Judicial Studies and Regulations; whereas its admission is according to the measured proportion of the male students that is up to 88.45 per cent, and 93.95 percent  for the female students. He mentioned that the Department of Medicine followed that, and its admission rate is 90.17% for female students, while 85.60% for male students; adding that the lowest measured proportion at which the admission was closed is 71.84% for male students, and 81.28% for female students. Moreover, he confirmed that in order to ensure transparency in the process of admission this year, the Deanship of Admission and Registration for allowed male and female applicants to see the lowest measured proportion by the admission of each section.

He elaborated that there is another opportunity for the students who have not been nominated through registering in the programs of the preparatory year and evening preparatory year as well as the diplomas of Community College that will accepting the admission applications on the Unified Admission Portal from 16 to 20 of the current month. He pointed out that the selection process will take place during the period from 23 to 25 of this month, stating that the results will be announced and the payment of fees during the period from 26 of Dhu'l-Qi'dah to 5 of Dhu al-Hijjah.

He pointed out that the new disciplines that were introduced in the admission process of this year 1439/1440 AH are interior design, print designs and advertising. He added that admission to the programs of the College of Education except physical education (sports training for students) and the kindergarten section of the female section has been suspended until updating them in line with the Kingdom vision 2030, and in accordance with the Ministry of Education's directives.
