Represented by the College of Community Service and Continuous Education (Female Section), Umm Al-Qura University participated in the proceedings of the “World No Tobacco Day.” The event, which was held under the theme “Tobacco and Heart Disease,” was patronized by Dr. Wael bin Hamzah Mutair, General Director of Health Affairs, Makkah Region. It was organized by the Tobacco Control Program, Public Health Department, General Directorate of Health Affairs, Makkah Region. Several entities participated in the event, including the Main Committee for Awareness of the Diseases of Smoking, Emirate of Makkah; College of Community Service and Continuous Education (Female Section), Umm Al-Qura University; Kafa Society; Derhum Weqaya Society; and Al-Noor Specialist Hospital. This was in the presence of Dr. Ali Al-Wadiee, General Director of the Tobacco Control Program, Ministry of Health. The event took place on Thursday, Ramadan 16, 1439 AH, at 11:00 PM.
The participation by the College of Community Service and Continuous Education was under the supervision of Dr. Zainab bint Muhammad Al-Kheder Muhammad Al-Qadi, Vice Dean of the College. The College took part by preparing an awareness corner devoted to the definition; environmental impact; and types of passive smoking, as well as its harmful consequences; effect on children; and how to quit. Moreover, awareness leaflets and guidance handbooks were distributed, alongside a full explanation given by the female affiliates participating in the event.
