The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al-Assami, has praised the partnership of UQU, represented in the College of Dentistry, in the community initiative implemented in cooperation with the Department of Education in Makkah Region entitled "Makkah’s Smile". The initiative aims to implement a field survey of cavity and gum diseases at primary schools in Makkah.
He said that this partnership represents an integration between universities and the public education sector to provide health services to school students, which promotes oral health. He urged specialists in this field at universities to utilize this community initiative and activate it to achieve the desired goals and aspirations.
For his part, Dr. Bakri bin Maatouq Assass, the President of UQU, praised the gesture made by the Deputy Minister of Education, explaining that it can give more motivation and create more dedication to serve this scientific entity in UQU. He stressed that all UQU workers and staff and there to serve religion, the King and the kingdom, as everyone is working from their position to serve everyone else with the amount of trust and integrity entrusted to them for the best interest of the country, following the guidance of the wise leadership - May God bless it, all of which coincides with the aspirations and support of the Minister of Education, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Eissa, to UQU. He called upon God the Almighty to guide everyone towards what he loves and wants.
For his part, the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Khutani, has praised the trust of the Deputy Minister of Education in UQU, represented in the College of Dentistry, for what its efforts to serve the community. He pointed out that the aim of this agreement named “Makkah's Smile" is spreading oral preventive medical awareness among school students, and educating about cleaning teeth, the importance of teeth, as well as the importance of maintaining the human health and digestive system to defend the body against diseases. It also aims to carry out medical examinations on school students to make statistics on the percentage of decay and oral diseases within the school community, in addition to analyzing the results of the statistics to create a database on decay rates among children of different ages in Makkah.
He said that about 3,000 students will be subject to examination during the school year, explaining that students suffering from tooth decay will be referred for treatment at the Educational Dental Hospital at the university campus in Al-Abideyah. He also noted that there will be coordination with the school to create a follow-up mechanism for the students during their treatment to reach complete healing, adding that there will be fluoride sessions for children's teeth to protect them from decaying.
