The President of the Sports Union for Saudi Universities, Dr. Abdullah Al-Baqmi, awarded the UQU team on Friday 23 Jumada Al-Oula 1439AH for the third time in a row at the Sports Union for Saudi Universities Championship for athletics in its eighth session. The championship was hosted by Bisha University.
It was held with the participation of 32 national universities and colleges. UQU was awarded the championship cup, in addition to gold medals with 174 points. King Saud University came second, winning silver medals with 134 points, and in the third place came Jazan University which won the bronze medal with 95 points.
For his part, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Amr Al-Saqqaf, congratulated the technical and administrative body as well as the players of the team for their accomplishment which he described as “expected” from UQU students. He praised their efforts in the championship which led them to win the first place among Saudi universities. Al-Saqqaf expressed his thanks and appreciation for the President of the university, Dr. Bakri bin Maatouq Assass, and the Vice Dean of the University for Educational Affairs, Dr. Abdulaziz Seroujy, for their support to the Deanship of Students Affairs which resulted in such a win.
Omar Sonbol, the Vice Dean of Student Affairs for Activities and Student Training, explained that the team of the university was prepared by the Technical and Administrative body for this championship. An internal championship inside UQU was held in preparation, alongside with a camp for the players participating in the championship. They underwent the necessary medical examinations and were provided with training classes in order to enable them to achieve the goal of winning the championship; which they eventually managed to do.
The Vice Dean of Student Affairs in Al-Qunfudhah, and the general supervisor of UQU team for athletics, Dr. Mastour Al-Faqih, said that the championship continued over the course of two days and has seen strong competition between UQU, King Saud University, and Jazan University.
