UQU President Receives First Report of Makkah Smile initiative

President of Umm Al-Qura University Dr. Bakri bin M'atooq bin Bakri Assas received the first report of "Makkah Smile" initiative carried out the College of Dentistry while meeting today at his office at the university campus in Abdyia with the Dean of College of Dentistry Dr. Abdul-Aziz Khotani and the vice deans and intern students in the college.    

 

He listened to an elaborate presentation by the Dean of the College of Dentistry Dr. Abdul-Aziz Khotani and the College Vice Dean Dr. Mohamed Al-Harthi on "Makkah Smile" initiative carried out by the College of Dentistry in collaboration with Makkah Education Department including the objectives and programs contained in the agreement signed between the two sides and the targeted categories of the male and female students in the phases of the general education.

 

Meanwhile, Dr. Assas lauded the efforts exerted by the College of Dentistry, those in charge of it and its affiliates including; faculty members and male and female students in serving the community. He wished them all success and prayed Allah to bestow success upon them.  

 

In turn. The Dean of College of Dentistry Dr. Abdul-Aziz Al-Khotani said the first visit in the initiative was made to Al-Hassan Al-Bassri Primary School in Makkah revealing that the agreement signed between the college and Makkah Education Department targets 3 thousand male and female students in the primary schools depending on the college's mobile clinics. He underscored that the initiative is aimed at disseminating awareness culture in the community as general and amongst students of the primary schools, in particular, to encourage them to give the needed attention to their teeth. 

 

Further, Dr. Al-Khotani appreciated keenness of the UQU President Dr. Bakri Assas and his support provided to the College of Dentistry in addition to his close follow up of all its scientific, educational and community programs. 

 

For his part, the Vice Dean of the College of Dentistry at Umm Al-Qura University Dr. Mohamed Al-Harthi said "Makkah Smile" initiative includes conducting medical examination on the students of the targeted schools, applying fluoride to students during the regular visits to these schools, making the appropriate treatment intervention to settle problems of caries and gum diseases in the school community  in addition to analyzing these statistics to make database  about the percentage of caries and gum diseases in the schools of Makkah for different ages.
