President of Umm Al-Qura University Dr. Bakri bin M'atooq bin Bakri Assas granted medals and decorations to the winners of "ciec" contest organized by Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club which included several stimulating and encouraging workshops for entrepreneurship. This came during the closing ceremony held at the College of Engineering and Islamic Architecture Theatre at the university campus in Abdyia, in the presence of UQU Vice President for Branches Dr. Abdul-Majeed Al-Ghamdi and the Dean of Engineering College Dr. Hamza Ghulman.
The contest included organizing intensive, 30 hours training workshops for three weeks to consolidate entrepreneurship culture and encourage students with entrepreneurial ideas and prepare them to start their startups and enter into labor market with their different products which are compatible with the community needs in line with the Kingdom Vision 2030.
Three innovative projects won the awards of the contest including; Car rental application "Tajeer" specialized in car rental depending on an innovative method, won the first prize amounting to SR 5000, Jim Application for communication between clients and Saudi factories to increase productivity received the second prize amounting to SR 3000, while My CV application for designing CVs in an attractive way won the third prize amounting to SR 2000.
Meanwhile, UQU President Dr. Bakri Assas said organizing such motivational programs and contests for the innovative and creative works come as part of the support provided by the university for the students extra-curricular activities which will hone students talents and help them come out with innovative projects to serve the community and knowledge economy in line with the National Transformation Plan 2020 and the Kingdom Vision 2030, indicating that the university's role is not limited only to teaching but also include supporting and motivating students projects. He explained that out of this support, 23 student clubs were established covering different activities in sharia sciences, Arabic language, engineering and medical sciences in addition to humanitarian aspects. He added that these clubs were established to meet different needs of students community and were prepared to organize the cultural, social, artistic, recreational, sport and volunteering programs and activities to be performed by them in their leisure time.
Wrapping up his speech, Dr. Assas lauded the support attached to the university by the wise government in such manner which contributed to providing the attractive environment for research and educational process at the university main campus in Makkah and its branches at Jamoum, Al-Lith, Adhm and Al-Qunfudhah provinces. He also praised directives and concern of the Minister of Education Dr. Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Eesa and his support provided for the programs of the university in different fields, praising students reaction with the extra-curricular programs provided for them and designed to hone their talents, sharpen their skills and help them make use of their leisure times.
