UQU President Launches Website for Volunteer Work Unit

The President of UQU, Bakri bin Maatouk Assass, has launched the website for the Volunteer Work Unit through the e-page of the Community Service and Continuous Education  College in order to utilize the scientific and specialized professional efforts to develop participation mechanisms and voluntary services, with the aim of implementing the message of the university to serve and develop the community, in addition to supporting the coordination efforts between the different scientific specialties to overcome challenges and support development policies. This took place in the presence of the Dean of Community Service and Continuous Education College, Dr. Khalid Barqawi and the Vice Deans of the college, at the office of Dr. Assass in Al-Abideya Campus.

The Dean of the Community Service and Continuous Education College, Dr. Khalid Barqawi, said that the goal of establishing the unit is to serve and develop the community with a clear vision and strategy that deepens the knowledge of the organized voluntary work system. This aims to encourage faculty members as well as students to carry out research and scientific studies specialized in the fields of voluntary work, as well as hold discussions to showcase and exchange experiences and skills in the various voluntary work fields. It also aims to contribute to the pervasiveness of adopting modern scientific methods in terms offering to take part in voluntary services to help and develop the community surrounding the university, as well as connect the university to the modern issues of the society.

Dr. Barqawi explained that this unit gives attention to developing voluntary programs and activities of faculty members and students to develop the community surrounding the university within the framework of a strategy based on research and scientific studies that intersect with developmental policies. The unit also cares about the channels concerned with spreading the culture of voluntary work and attracting voluntary entrepreneurs, as well as specialized authorities and committees to enrich this aspect and contribute to utilizing and using modern communication technology to create coordination in the fields of voluntary work and also create support and cooperation to achieve societal integration in all fields.

For his part, Dr. Assass praised the support that UQU receives from the wise government. This support has contributed to preparing the educational environment in accordance with the highest specifications and standards. He pointed out that launching the unit’s website is part of the university’s role in serving its community. He also pointed out that this service will regulate the process of group voluntary work in many aspects in terms of developing the region. This will eventually contribute to monitoring the indicators of the qualitative and quantitative change in voluntary works and services from the university staff to the community surrounding it.

He stressed that the outputs of this voluntary unit are represented in the role of the university in serving the society, and highlighting the scientific excellence of the university’s faculty members, as well as emphasizing their ability to innovate and create through their efforts in voluntary activities and services.
The outputs of the unit are also represented in enhancing scientific research in voluntary work fields, especially in terms of social and humane aspects in the Saudi Arabian society, in addition to benefiting from the results of research in establishing databases that meet the requirements of the Kingdom’s 2030 Vision. He pointed out the continuous sponsoring of the Minister of Education, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Eissa, for the university’s programs and activities. He praised the efforts of Dean, Vice Deans, as well as the employees of Community Service and Continuous Education College.


Afterwards, Dr. Assass received the annual report of the college for academic year 1437/1438AH, and the strategic plan that meets the requirements of the 2020 National Transition Plan, in accordance with the Kingdom's 2030 Vision for the next five years. He also received the financial indicators of the college for fiscal year 2015/2016.
