Under the sponsorship of Adviser to the Emir of Makkah and Deputy Governor of Makkah Region Development Hisham bin Abdurrahman Al-Faleh, Assistant Deputy Governor Of Makkah Region Development Adnan bin Omar Khoja initiated on Thursday, Shabaan 12, 1437H a campaign to mark the Global Handwashing Day. The three-day event was held at Al Diyafa Mall Makkah and organized by the Department of the General Infectious Disease Control in coordination with the University Medical Center and other health facilities.
Khoja toured the mall where Makkah Region Development participated in a pavilion for modern and innovative tools that raise awareness and guide health practitioners.
Addressing the participants, Khoja reiterated the importance of raising health awareness as critical for the community and human culture. Also, he said the hand washing, that is marked in an international day, is in fact a teaching of Islam. He thanked the participants and honored health facilities by awarding honorary shields and medals on behalf of the Deputy Governor of Makkah Region Development.
For his part, Head of the University Medical Center Dr. Yasser bin Hassan Bahakim highlighted the goals of the day which was designated by the World Health Organization (WHO). This day is dedicated to motivate and mobilize health practitioners to raise awareness of handwashing in the community. He said the center's participation reflected cooperation and came upon invitation from the Makkah Health Affairs' Department of the General Infectious Disease Control.
Bahakim praised efforts exerted by the center in serving the Saudi community, improving the professional performance, and controlling infectious disease between health practitioners and the community. He expressed thanks to the University President, Prof. Bakry bin Maatouq Assas and Vice-President Mohamed Soliman Shoushou on their continuous support to the University Medical Center and efforts exerted to improve medical and protective service. Also, he thanked Saleh Bajamal, Mohamed El Maliki and the center's staff members who managed to make the center appears in a unique position among other health facilities took part in the event.
