The UQU President, Dr. Bakri M. Assas, has affirmed that the Royal Decree enacting the new Traffic Law and Bylaw, providing for issuance of driving licenses for Saudis of both genders (males and females), as per the Sharia provisions, stems from the keen interest of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in all that is of benefit for the sons and daughters of the Kingdom.
Granted, the Royal Decree has overt social dimensions, Dr. Assas stressed. But, moreover, it has a substantial economic dimension as well; as it goes in line with the Saudi Vision 2030. As a matter of fact, the Saudi woman has made impressive, self-realizing achievements both domestically and abroad. She's managed to carve out her own path in the scientific and social domains. As such, he pointed out, it came as no surprise that she gained a well-deserved eminent status. Examples to this are to be found in the innumerable prominent positions held by women in Saudi universities, financial institutions, international organizations, as well as the Shura Council.
Dr. Assas expounded that the Royal Decree stipulated that the State shall continue to protect the lofty religious values and social norms, and show keen interest in having those values embraced and cherished by all citizens, both males and females. That is deemed to be one of the State's top priorities. It shall not hesitate to take any action it deems necessary to preserve the safety and security of the society, or to uphold the citizens' national dignity and social rights.
