Today, Sunday, the 13th Summer Training Course for Teachers of Arabic to Non-Native Speakers, for the year 1442 A.H., concluded. The course was implemented remotely by Umm Al-Qura University, represented by the Institute of Arabic Language for Non-Native Speakers, starting on the first of Dhul-Qi`dah 1442 A.H., for 22 teachers from 10 universities and 12 institutes, in different regions of Indonesia. The course was organized in continuation of the institute’s mission to teach Arabic using advanced technologies and to activate the training courses for which the royal approval was issued in 1428 A.H.
The Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in Indonesia, Mr. Essam Al-Thaqafi, praised the institute’s role in promoting the message of education using technology, which achieved the desired goals remotely and is in line with the precautionary measures. He congratulated the trainees on completing the course, emphasizing the university’s excellence in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers and its continuous development of the training packages.
On his part, the UQU Vice President for Educational Affairs, Dr. Amer Al-Zaidi, clarified that the university is rich in technical capabilities that have confirmed its leadership in the digital world. In addition, it has personnel capable of performing the educational mission in various circumstances, which has made it a spearhead for cooperation in spreading the Arabic language to non-native speakers based on developed learning and training strategies. He disclosed the university's intention to further promote the cooperation with the KSA Embassy in Indonesia in order to offer a corresponding course for teaching the Indonesian language to non-native speakers at the university, forming another track for the courses.
On his part, the Dean of the Institute, Prof. Hasan Bukhari, affirmed that UQU will continue to serve the language of the Noble Qur’an by empowering its personnel and the professional development of its teachers. This is achieved by providing training programs for teachers of Arabic language for non-native speakers in Islamic countries abroad, in cooperation with specialized scientific institutions. He explained that the institute has contributed, over the past 13 years, to the training of 260 teachers, representing 105 universities, 61 institutes and 5 educational bodies in different regions of Indonesia.
Prof. Bukhari praised the care the UQU President, Prof. Moaddi bin Muhammad Aal Madh-hab, attaches to the programs of the institute, his keenness to consolidate its scientific message in light of the current conditions due to the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, and his support of the employment of technology to hold training courses on their scheduled time, in cooperation with the Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education.
It is worth noting that the course included training packages specialized in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, such as preparing its teaching material and teaching its four components and skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In addition, the course provided effective teaching skills and linguistic assessment and also focused on how to apply technology for teaching Arabic. Moreover, training packages were dedicated to Shari`ah-related topics, such as the characteristics of the Islamic Shari`ah, contemporary jurisprudence issues, and rules for dealing with misconceptions. All topics were presented by a distinguished elite of the institute’s skilled academic personnel.
