Innovate!

The Innovate competition is one of the initiatives of the UQU Deanship of Students Affair to encourage the male and female university students to be innovative and creative in various scientific, technical, engineering and health fields, and all other fields. The competition aims at encourage students and highlighting their creative and innovative projects in local and international exhibitions. This is in addition to introducing the university's achievements in the field of innovation and invention, in line with the university's strategic plan and the Saudi vision 2030.

Competition Objectives

  • Spreading the culture of innovation and creativity inside the university (in the main headquarters and branches).
  • Empowering the university's outstanding innovators and talented students.
  • Boosting innovation and creativity inside the university.
  • Actively participating in international events and exhibitions to highlight the status of the university's students at the local and international levels.
  • Marketing the outstanding student's innovations and projects.
  • Creating partnerships with the investment bodies outside the university.
  • Supporting the innovative and creative projects carried out by the students

Prizes

  • Discretionary prizes for the best participation at the level of the university.
  • Nomination for participation in the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva 2020.

Terms of Participation

  • The participation form should be filled out, and the required documents securely attached.
  • The contest targets all regular students (UQU main headquarters and the branches). It is possible for more than one student to participate in one project.
  • Participation is open for all university students, in all phases (diploma, bachelor's, and postgraduate level).
  • The contribution must be the students own idea. It should be new, and not adapted or repeated.
  • The innovation must be applicable, solving a problem and meeting an actual need.
  • The participant will completely adhere to the timetable set by the contest's organizing committee.
  • Priority will be given to the applicants who have registered patents or whose projects are filed with a patent office (Saudi Office, Gulf Office, European Office, American Office etc.).
  • The participant is obliged to submit the initial form (Prototype of the project)
  • The participant must be willing to travel and participate in the Geneva International Exhibition for Inventions, which will be held in the period from 1–5 Sha`ban 1441 AH, corresponding to 25–29, March, 2020 A.C.

Participation Requirements

  • Professionally preparing an initial form, in the event of nomination for the final phases.
  • Providing a copy of the patent, for those who have patents from one of the recognized offices.
  • Issuing a Saudi passport (if not already available) in the event of nomination for international participation.
  • Completely adhering to the regulations of the university and the Saudi Kingdom in the event of nomination for international participation.

Jury Committee

The competition jury committee is headed by the Dean of Student Affairs, and consists of a group of members from the following categories:

  • Male and female academic members at the university.
  • Specialists in the field of innovation and creativity from outside the university.
  • Investors interested in investing in the innovative and creative projects.
