    Code of Ethics

     

    Glossary of Terms

    • The Department: UQU Department of Quran and Sunnah
    • Faculty Member: Professor, associate professor, or assistant professor at either of the two sections.
    • Equivalent staff to faculty members: Teaching assistants (TAs) and instructors at both sections.
    • Administrative staff: Employees working for the administrative and technical divisions of the department at both sections.
    • Students: Male and female students of the Department of Quran and Sunnah.
    • Ethics: The ethics and principles to be embraced by the Department staff.
    • Educational Process: The procedures and activities taking place at the department, with the aim to provide learners with the necessary theoretical background, practical skills, and positive tendencies.
    • Community: The surrounding human environment both inside and outside Umm al-Qura University (UQU).
    • Work Community: The UQU internal human environment, comprised of faculty members, administrative staff and students of both genders.
    • Behavior: It refers to any of the actions and activities carried out by the Department's faculty members and administrative staff, be they physical or moral.
    • Self-development: Prompting self-development with the basic skills covering all theoretical, practical, mental and social aspects.
    • Moderation: A set of principles characterized by wisdom, non-extremism and knowledgeability the Department staff are supposed to embrace.

     

     Essence of the code of conduct:

    One: - Ethics of the educational process:

    1. Active participation to the achievement of vision and mission in addition to the department's objectives (values)

    2. Commitment to the high-level standards of curricula preparation, study and assessment

    3. Continuous update of education methodologies and strategies in light of the scientific developments

    4. Depending on the many up-to-date references to study according to the adopted plan

    5. Giving the priority for teaching in order to make information clear and plain

    6. Helping students in achieving their aspirations by making knowledge available and improving their skills

    7. Perfect handling of lecturers in the best interest of students to encourage the spirit of creativity, innovation and research

    8. Making lectures rich in student effective interaction

    9. Taking care of research to achieve goals of the educational process

    10. Keenness on teaching in the sound fluent language

    11. Maintaining justice and equality in student assessments

    12. Setting balance tests to measure and assess real student level in addition to administering exams according to the applicable regulations and rules

     

    Two: Academic and moral relation with students:

    1. Serious participation to the development of student's knowledge and ethics

    2. Boosting Islamic values, spirit of patriotism, moderatism and loyalty

    3. Giving the good example for students with regard to the values of sincerity, honesty and punctuality

    4. Helping students (as long as possible) to remedy and solve issues affecting their academic performance

    5. Helping students in achieving goals of students' knowledge and skills

    6. Encouraging students to create strong scientific characters by intensive reading

    7. Encouraging students to hold talks, discussions and freely expression of views

    8. Pushing students to value their good deeds by encouraging spirits of creativity and innovation

    9. Encouraging self education and life-time sustainability

    10. Helping students to take responsibility for improving their skills and culture of integrity, honesty and confidence in acts and decisions

    11. Allocating enough time to meet students and listen to their problem in addition to academic guidance

    12. Keeping information given by students secret in a way that doesn't violate the rules of the department  

    13. Honesty in teacher-student knowledge transfer

    14. Endeavoring to maintaining a continued growth in scientific and practical merit

    15. Creating attractive educational environment

    16. Commitment to staff-student mutual respect

    18. Avoiding illicit gains from relations with the students

    19. Realizing the principle of equal opportunities

    Three: Relation to work community:

    1. Loyalty to department and providing effective advice in line with the morals and the interests of labor

    2. Working as one team

    3. Commitment to the principle of dialogue and respect of difference

    4. Respect to specialism and specialists

    5. Respect to colleagues in addition to the commitment to duties out of belief in values

    6. Active participation in the department's board and other related academic committee meetings

    7. Participation in university and employment activities

    8. Honesty and belief in relationship with students, co-workers and management team

    9. Focusing on positive sides and avoiding using goofs for personal interest

    10. Giving advice in respectful way to students and co-workers

    11. Exchanging academic and administrative experience with co-workers to improve the position of the department

    12. Favoring the public interest on personal interests

    13. Boosting acts that maintain reputation of the department and maximizing benefits of the department's resources

    Four: Communication with the community:

    1. Giving a good example of citizen to the community

    2. Adherence to values and correct ethical traditions

    3. Showing commitment to responsibilities for the community and response to its changes

    4. Realizing effective communication between students and community institutions

    5. Linking communal services provided by the department with the life reality  

    6. Activating community service according the applicable plans

    7. Active participation in community development and finding solutions to meet the needs of the community via researches and studies in addition the human skills building

    8. Direct communication with according to the mission of the department

    Five: Self-conduct and look:

    1. Modestly behaving, integrity, honesty, patience, firmness, discipline, tolerance and cheerfulness

    2. Commitment to the essence of equality regardless of color, sex, age, nationality, disability, ideology or culture background

    3. Honesty in keeping the department's internal developments away from media before verification from the personal in concern

    4. Keeping information, such as details of committee or board meetings, secret

    5. Taking into account the academic and professional norms while communicating with the others

    6. Giving the example of elegant ethics for the students

    7. Staying away from suspicious places and distrustful thoughts

    8. Commitment to tidy and good appearance

    9. Protecting environment in the university and department and stopping smoking inside the campus

    1. Scientific and technological development and being familiar with the modern educational methodologies

    2. Good understanding of the field of specialty

    3. Following up all developments in the domain to the best interest of the educational process and community service

    4. Exchanging experience between academic staff

    5. Making good use of student performance development

    6. Joining training programs, workshops and conferences that have direct relation to the specialization and the field of study

    Seven: Scientific Research:

    1. Having strong belief in that scientific research is the way to improve level of study at the department

    2. Taking into account the authenticity and creativity while making researches

    3. Rationalizing usage of resources needed for teaching and research

    4. Adopting scientifically-proven standards of researches to achieve precise results and facts

    5. Keenness on creating a school of study in the field of specialization to improve position of the department among domestic and international scientific domains

    6. Refraining from taking part in researches that negatively affect the unified lands of homeland and security

    7. Respecting and not violation of intellectual property rights

    8. Objective and impartial judging

    9. Good representation of the department and university during local and international conferences and seminars

    Principles for Student Code of Ethics:

    One: - Ethics of the educational process:

    1. Active participation to the achievement of vision and mission in addition to the department's objectives (values)
     

    2. Reviewing plans of study, curricula, academic assessment and regular study schedule to perfectly benefit from the education process  

    3. Reviewing approved references for a good understanding of subjects

    4. Attendance and punctuality

    5. Interactive participation during lectures taking into account the rules of dialogue and timing

    6. Taking care of research and scientific sides to achieve goals of the educational process

    7. Keenness on study and serious understanding

    8. Serious preparation for regular tests and commitment to the attendance under the applicable rules

    Two: Academic and moral relation with teaching staff:

    1. Respecting academic staff in and out the lecture halls

    2. Physical and mental reactions during lecture time

    3. Communication for help and seeking advisory in solving problems that affect academic performance

    4. Dialogue, discussion and exchange of views according to the regular norms and principles

    5. Effective communication with academic staff

    6. Refraining from using personal relations with staff to negatively affect the educational process

    7. Commitment to the objective and nutral assessment of academic staff to develop the educational process

    One: Professional Performance:

    1. Maintaining proficiency in working to achieve aspired speed and accuracy of progress

    2. Adopting the easiest legal method to carry out the job

    3. Honest, serious and sincere implementation of all tasks

    4. Perfect application of regulations and rules

    5. Respecting daily working hours

    6. Scheduling tasks and setting priorities for work

    7. Making the necessary professional activities to improve performance

    8. Accuracy in performance with commitment to the limits of specialization

    9. Making the necessary efforts to meet the needs of reviewers

    10. Taking into account the rules of etiquette for interacting with the public, superiors and subordinates

    Two: Work environment:

    1. Participation to the achievement of department's vision and mission

    2. Giving priority for work and perfection

    3. Wining trust of co-workers

    4. Commitment to the team working through cooperation, following up, seriousness, and cooperative responsibility

    5. Loyalty to department and providing effective advice in line with the morals and the interests of labor 

    Three: Dealing with the public:

    1. Taking into account the rules of etiquette for interacting with the reviewers

    2. Giving enough time for receiving reviewers

    3. Guiding reviewer to the legal shortcuts needed for achievement

    4. Adopting the problem facing reviewers and trying to find a solution

    5. Showing no arrogance in dealing with the reviewers and listening carefully for their problems and guiding them to the correct way

    6. Encouraging reviewers to continue the transaction and keeping pessimism away

    7. Dealing with the reality of situation with the public and keeping hypotheses away

    8. Positively evaluation of circumstances and reaction

    Four: Behavior and Honor of Profession:

    1. Accepting the responsibility of the job as a duty to benefit the community

    2. Distancing oneself away from violations that may affect the honor in or outside workplace

    3. Confessing to mistakes and accepting the corrective measures

    4. Keeping secrets and not disclosing information about work after ending relation to the job

    5. Never making tricks for personal gains or harming others

    6. Achieving the satisfaction of beneficiaries from services provided by the department in line with the applicable rules

    7. Never conducting personal businesses or commercial jobs

    8. Neutral and objective dealing with reviewers to maintain the principles of equality and equal opportunities 

    9. Providing advice depending on correct information for the public and co-workers

    10. Protecting trusted public property or that were provided for usage

    11. Acceptable interaction with the superiors and subordinates
