This research examines a distinctive scholarly feature of Imam al-Bukhari’s Sahih: his use of multiple chapter headings for a single hadith. This feature attracted the admiration of scholars, both in his time and after him. Al-Bukhari did not repeat a hadith merely for repetition, but to uncover its various jurisprudential meanings, deductive implications, and critical insights, each according to the chapter heading and its context. Through this method, his deep understanding of hadith texts, precise reasoning, and profound jurisprudential insight become clear. The study takes the hadith of Aisha, may God be pleased with her, as an applied model for this feature. It traces the hadith across the books and chapters of Sahih al-Bukhari, studies its chains of transmission and variant wordings, and compares al-Bukhari’s classifications with those of the other compilers of the six canonical hadith collections. The research also highlights al-Bukhari’s care in selecting specific chains and wordings that serve the purpose of each chapter. The significance of this topic lies in showing that al-Bukhari’s chapter headings are keys to understanding his jurisprudential and hadith methodology. They reveal his aims in repetition, selection, and arrangement, and help researchers better understand difficult chapter headings, foundational hadiths, and the precision of his scholarly method.
