Abstract
This research examines the jurisprudential rulings on stem cells extracted from the human placenta, focusing on their contemporary therapeutic and cosmetic applications. The study adopts inductive, analytical, and deductive methodologies, collecting and analyzing scientific literature to derive appropriate Islamic legal rulings. Findings indicate that the placenta is a rich stem cell source utilized in modern medicine across various clinical applications. This is due to the ease of postpartum harvesting without complex procedures, its ability to reduce immune rejection, and its relatively low risk of transmitting diseases compared to other sources. The study outlines stem cell types, their human body sources, medical applications, and biological advantages over other cell types. It also reviews juristic opinions regarding the purity (ṭahārah) or impurity of the placenta, concluding it is pure as a detached human organ. Accordingly, it discusses the permissibility of utilizing the placenta and authorizing its stem cell usage and applications. Furthermore, it analyzes rulings on using these cells in cosmetic procedures, distinguishing between essential medical treatments and aesthetic enhancements. Finally, it examines specific applications including injections, capsules, therapeutic formulations, and cosmetic creams, clarifying the Islamic legal ruling for each case in accordance with established Sharia principles and contemporary bioethical frameworks.
