Abstract
The research aimed to understand the nature of e-commerce and its importance in enhancing economic development, as well as identifying the main features of e-commerce in Saudi Arabia. The study highlighted the significant support provided by Saudi Arabia for e- commerce and investments in technological infrastructure, which provide a strong foundation for the growth of this sector. The research showed that Saudi Arabia has become one of the largest global markets in e-commerce, with transactions reaching about $5.7 billion in 2020. The data revealed that the size of e-commerce in Saudi Arabia was 10.3 billion riyals in 2019 and reached 122.76 billion riyals in 2022, reflecting the increasing growth during this period. The research indicated that these figures represent a positive signal to investors regarding the position of e-commerce in the Kingdom. The study adopted the descriptive-analytical method, and the results showed that the reality of e-commerce in the Kingdom is characterized by rapid growth supported by several key factors, including extensive digital transformation and intensive internet usage among the population. The study recommended the necessity of improving and developing human skills through advanced training programs in e-commerce and technology, and establishing specialized centers in the field of information technology to support research and development to enhance innovation and progress in this sector.
