Abstract
Islamic law places great emphasis on taking into account people’s circumstances, particularly those of individuals in need. Accordingly, the poor are granted special consideration in Islamic jurisprudence and are allocated designated shares from various financial obligations, including zakat on wealth, zakat al-fitr, expiations, and other forms of financial support. Jurists have frequently addressed zakat-related rulings by prioritizing the best interests of the poor. The significance of this study lies in compiling jurisprudential rulings in which the interests of the poor are given priority, as well as in demonstrating the precedence of Islamic law in establishing regulations that safeguard the rights of the needy. The study reaches several key conclusions, most notably that prioritizing the best interests of the poor is a well-established principle recognized by jurists across different Islamic schools of thought, and that trade goods subject to zakat should be assessed and distributed in a manner most beneficial to the poor. The researcher recommends further scholarly attention to jurisprudential issues that highlight Islam’s leadership in upholding human rights, particularly for individuals with limited or no income, and to emphasizing the objectives of Islamic law, which aim to ensure sufficiency for all segments of society while taking their needs into consideration.
