Why the Program Was Introduced or Developed

1. Entrenching the art, cultural and national identity in the designing field, and preserving nation heritage.
2. Given the Ministry of Education endeavor to develop education, and update the university specialties and programs, the need arose for developing the design specialty and its expanding in the Art Education Department of the Education College as it receives many admission applications. And, due to the huge number of students desiring to apply for it, it was separated as a specialized department “Graphic Designs Program”, in a specialized college “Designs College”.
3. The labor market is in constant need of for specialized graduates in the graphic design field due to the steady boom in investment in the Kingdom, as well as the scarcity of specialists in that field. 
4. The Program seeks to adequately train on the computer-based designing programs. This involves magazine and book pages designing programs, invitation cards, image processing, electronic publishing, advertising design, advertising campaign planning and product packaging design.
5. The Kingdom seeks national graphic design graduates able to meet the Kingdom’s need for designers in the governmental and private sectors due to its scarcity.
6. The graduates and their parents seek to initiate design postgraduate studies Department enabling them to obtain the Master and PhD degrees in that specialty.
7. There has been a need for creating a design center serving the society and providing the technical counseling in the field of specialty for all the projects implemented by the Kingdom through the Graphic Design Department, and the supervision of the Department academic staff members.  Also, the Department can create production unit serving the University, and performing all the designs for all Umm Al-Qura University colleges.
