Introduction
Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah Al-Mukarramah is honored to serve the Makkan community academically and scientifically and promote the Saudi Kingdom's role in serving the pilgrims. In this regard, the university has a unique role in directing the scientific and academic programs and the research activities to achieve its mission and social responsibility.
The university has been very keen on promoting noble values and ideal morals in the students' minds, based on its mission of spreading enlightened scientific thinking and consolidating values and principles of our ancient Islamic civilization. The university keeps on maintaining an attractive educational environment which ensures providing its students with learning and virtues, gaining life skills necessary to enrich their lives and qualify them to contribute effectively in developing and building themselves and thereby developing their community.
The College of Medicine is one of the thriving supporters of the university, boosting its leadership role and enlightened vision. In this regard, the college has gone further miles in keeping pace with the comprehensive development movement witnessed in the university, thanks to the significant support of the university leadership represented by His Excellency the UQU President, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail.

Cooperation and Partnerships
Coordination was achieved during the year with several health and public sectors to design educational training programs, in cooperation with the college of medicine, for the students. These sectors included:
- Ministry of Health, represented by the General Directorate of Health Affairs in Makkah.
- Ministry of Hajj, represented by the "Be Helpful" voluntary program.
- Ministry of Interior, represented by the Civil Defense and Security Forces Hospital.
- Department of Education in Makkah.
- Al-Rajhi Charity Campaign.
- Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research at Umm Al-Qura University.
- Red Crescent Authority.
Overview of the Program Plan
The committee supervising the Hajj Volunteer Program, headed by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Abdul-Salam bin Abdul-Rahman Nour Wali, has approved to divide the participants into three categories, including:
(1) Residents in Makkah and the Holy Sites Hospitals Category
(2) Field Awareness Category, Field Ambulance Teams.
(3) Research Category
** Thanks are due to Allah as 372 volunteers were accepted from various health specializations in the three categories.
Executive plan
- Date of commencement of work in the field and holy sites' hospitals: 8 Dhul-Hijjah, 1439 A.H.
- Date of ending work at the holy sites: 12 Dhul-Hijjah, 1439 A.H.
- Total number of volunteers: 118.
- Number of supervisors from the postgraduate students: Two male and two female students.
- Number of participating students in the holy sites' hospitals: five male students, and sixteen female students.
- Number of participating students in the field category (ambulance teams): 65 female students and 32 male students.
- Number of shifts per day: two shifts, from 8 to 1 and from 2 to 7.
- Number of field teams: 6 teams for the female volunteers and 2 teams for the male volunteers, with a total of 12 volunteers per team.
- Number of shift hours: five hours.
- Number of students per shift: 30 students.
- Number of health centers per shift: 3 centers.
- Number of handled cases: about 3 thousand cases dealt with by the ambulance teams, health centers, and hospitals on Mina and Arfat Sites.
- Funders/ participants: Ministry of Health, Al-Rajhi Charity Establishment, Civil Defense and the General Directorate of Education in Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
- Ambulance bags and equipment: well-equipped ambulance bags were received from the Department of Civil Defense.
- Holy sites' hospitals: Mina Al-Jisr Hospital, Mina Emergency Hospital, Mina New Street Hospital.
- Number of shifts per day: two shifts, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., with each shift being an average of 12 hours per day.
