Overview
The Department of Chemistry in the College of Applied Sciences at Umm Al-Qura University is one of the oldest departments of chemistry in Saudi universities. It was established in 1401 A.H., along with other departments of the college (physics, maths, biology).
The department awards the bachelor degree with majors in pure and industrial chemistry to the students of the department.
The department's distinct research teams are ranked among the global search centers and include a group of faculty members who have published a considerable number of research papers and research publications in many local and international journals and periodicals. These research teams are linked, via distinguished partnerships, with many companies, factories, hospitals, public and private medical centers, and business owners in the Saudi Kingdom. The teams provide them with the scientific advice required to solve their research problems, in line with the vision and objectives of the Department of Chemistry in the College of Applied Sciences at Umm Al-Qura University.
Two programs are offered by the Department of Chemistry: Chemistry Program (40200) and Industrial Chemistry Program (40207). Students are awarded the bachelor degree in chemistry or the bachelor degree in industrial chemistry after the successful completion of (138) credit hours. The educational plan enables students to combine between the acquired knowledge and its application through a great deal of practical activities, as described in the plan, at the college labs which are equipped with state of the art technologies conforming to world standards. Thus, graduates are able to handle relevant practical problems and become highly qualified to be distinct both in the labor market and during post-graduate studies.
Mission
To prepare highly qualified chemists who meet labor market requirements and effectively contribute to solving scientific and industrial challenges in support of the Kingdom’s development plans
University Vision
An educational environment with international standards, attractive to distinguished students and scientists
